Culturally Responsive Teaching

This is a video response in which I reflect on the following questions:

• What is the difference between student-centered and teacher-centered instruction? Which is best for promoting multiculturalism in the classroom?
• Describe some strategies a teacher can use to promote human rights.
• Can all students learn? Why or why not?
• What is "culturally responsive teaching"? Does it matter? Why or why not?
• Should teachers use their position to promote social justice and equality? What is the teacher's responsibility? What if social justice and equality mean something different to the parent? How can a teacher balance this?
• What are some ways to prepare yourself to teach multiculturally? Consider familial beliefs and cultural customs. Where do you draw the line before you cross over into offending parents and their beliefs?
